Last weekend, on Friday 25th ov November 2016 Fidel Castro died.
When we were visiting the island earlier this year, our guide gave us an extra by taking us to the Cementerio Santa Ifigenia in the city of Santiago de Cuba, opened on 22.04.1868.
The (international) tourist attraction was the mausoleum of José Marti (1853-1895) and the very frequent changing of the guard. José Martí was a Cuban poet, writer and is a national hero. He fought for the indepencene from Spain and died for it. Apart from his death he had a very interesting life and was a free mason (Wikipedia José Martí).
There is this huge empty space in front of the cemetery, quiet, peaceful, and it was hot (constantly on Cuba).
To the left behind the palm trees you can see the mausoleum for José Martí.
I forgot the frequency right now, but I think it was every 15 minutes and now is every 30 minutes (if not, it was 30 and now 60) – which is something like constantly.
There they come, im Stechschritt. The one in the middle is leading the two new ones to their shift.
Exchanging, the two will be relieved.
Then there was time to visit the grave of José Martí, a beautiful place, opened 30.06.1951.
The sun is shining on his coffin every day.
There is an eternal flame burning nearby.
